Although this upscale coastal community 18 miles southeast of downtown Jacksonville is primarily known for its golf courses and swanky homes, it also has beautiful beaches that attract wealthy residents, as well as a number of resorts: the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, The Lodge & Club, and the Sawgrass Marriott. Public beach access for nonresort guests is minimal in most areas because of heavily restricted parking. However, thanks to its free public parking, Mickler's Landing, south of most residences, is the most popular beach access point. It's also famous for producing sharks' teeth. Amenities: showers; toilets; lifeguards (seasonal); parking (free). Best for: solitude; sunrise; walking.
