Fodor's Review

The zoo offers visitors the chance to hop on a train and explore different countries through the animals that live there, from the Land of the Tiger, a 2.5-acre Asian attraction featuring Sumatran and Malayan tigers, to the Tuxedo Coast, a controlled Antarctic-like environment for a group of Magellanic penguins, and the African Plains area, which houses elephants, white rhinos, and two highly endangered leopards, in addition to other species of African birds and mammals. The Range of the Jaguar, winner of the Association of Zoos and Aquarium's Exhibit of the Year, takes visitors to a 4-acre Central and South American exhibit, with exotic big cats as well as 20 other species native to the region. Among the other highlights are rare waterfowl and the African Reptile Building, which showcases some of the world's most venomous snakes. Wild Florida is a 2½-acre area with black bears, bald eagles, white-tailed deer, and other animals native to Florida, while RiverQuest reveals the ecology of the adjacent Trout River. Play Park contains a Splash Ground, forest play area, two mazes, and discovery building; Stingray Bay has a 17,000-gallon pool where visitors can pet and feed the mysterious creatures; and DinoTrek's life-size dinosaurs offer a glimpse into the past. Parking is free.
