Getting Here and Around

The main airport for the region is Jacksonville International Airport. Free shuttles run from the terminal to all parking lots (except the garage) around the clock, and transportation service into the city is available from numerous companies in vehicles that range from taxis to vans to elegant limousines. Check beforehand on prices, which vary widely, and on which credit cards are accepted. The average cost per person from airport to downtown is $35 to $45; it's $45 to $55 for trips to the beaches. The larger companies usually operate 24/7, but the smaller (and often less expensive ones) may be by appointment only.

Connecting the north and south banks of the St. Johns River, the S.S. Marine water taxi runs between several locations, including the Crowne Plaza Jacksonville Riverfront and the Jacksonville Landing. The one-way trip takes about five minutes. During football season the water taxi also makes trips to EverBank Field on game days and for special events. The water taxi runs Sunday through Thursday 11-9, Friday and Saturday 11-11 (except during rain or other bad weather), with special hours on game days and for special events. One-way fare is $3; special-event fare is $5.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority buses and shuttles serve the city and its beaches. The city also operates a small monorail system that links the convention center and a few downtown areas to several other stations across the river on the Southbank and San Marco. It costs only 35 cents and runs weekdays from 6 am to 11 pm.
