Miami-Dade Cultural Center

Miami-Dade Cultural Center Review

Containing three cultural resources, this fortresslike 3-acre complex is a downtown focal point.

The Miami Art Museum is waiting to move into its new 120,000-square-foot home in Museum Park, which is to be completed in mid-2013. Meanwhile, the museum presents major touring exhibitions of work by international artists, with an emphasis on art since 1945. Every second Saturday, entrance is free for families. 305/375-3000. www.miamiartmuseum.org. $8 [free for families every 2nd Sat.]. Tues.-Fri. 10-5, weekends noon-5.

Discover a treasure trove of colorful stories about the region's history at HistoryMiami, formerly known as the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. Exhibits celebrate Miami's multicultural heritage, including an old Miami streetcar, and unique items chronicling the migration of Cubans to Miami. 305/375-1492. www.historymiami.org. $8 museum, $10 combo ticket art and history museums. Tues.-Fri. 10-5, weekends noon-5.
