Terrazzo floors, whimsical furnishings, and an air of understated elegance reflect the hotel's original 1937 grand design. Art deco is in overdrive in this neighborhood, and the hotel is swept up in the energy of the district. A restaurant with a sidewalk café allows you to check out passers-by. The beach is a stone's throw away. Inside, room size is moderate, and all have comfortable beds, fairly large closets, and average-size baths. A new pool is scheduled to be ready on the roof deck by late 2007. In the meantime, you get cabana access at Nikki Beach on 1st Street. Pro: Classic Miami art deco at bargain prices. Con: Ocean Drive noise.
