Fodor's Review

If you're seeking an elegant, relaxed property away from the noise but still near South Beach, the Palms has an exceptional beach, an easy pace, and beautiful gardens with soaring palm trees and inviting hammocks; the rooms look as fabulous as the grounds, which include a 5,000-square-foot Aveda spa and a signature farm-to-table restaurant, Essensia. The property combines excellent service, laid-back sophistication, and oceanfront serenity into a destination where wellness and environmental awareness are high priorities.

Wonderful, Relaxing Hotel

This hotel is perfect for relaxation. The rooms have neutral colors and a stylish decor and the large windows offer great views. The beach and pool aren't rowdy or snobby like the rese of South Beach. It is about 15 blocks or an $8 cab ride to the heart of South Beach. If you plan to stay at the hotel, plan to eat meals there as well, they have wonderful food which you can enjoy outside but also there aren't many other options in the immediate area.

Nicely Removed from the Action, but Low on Luxury

We wanted to get away from New York for a few days and shake the winter weather out of our bones. We wanted Miami, but only a small dose of the South Beach craziness. MBOR was a perfect solution, being just close enough, and far enough, from the nightlife action. The grounds were what we were most interested in, and overall they satisfied: comfortable chairs around a decent sized pool, a tiki bar, out door shower and board walk leading down to a small

beach. That's what we were there for, and we got it good. However, a mix-up in type of room, a 2 hour plus delay in getting ANY room, the need for a "coupon" at breakfast, the rather dated decor of the rooms, the so-so quality of the restaurant food, among other things, reminded my wife and me that we were not at a 5 star resort. We were at a hotel. A great getaway, but very standard in our book. A new staff, and some tasteful updates and extras could make this a great place, instead of an adequate one. One note - kudos to the valet men - they were top notch.
