Fodor's Review:
People who stay at Sanctuary usually either love it or hate it. The narrow, two-story boutique hotel purports an ultrachic contemporary style, with rooms like upscale dorm apartments. (They might make you think of The Real World.) They have a separate living area with 42-inch plasma screens and stainless-steel mini-kitchens that include microwaves, minibars, and coffeemakers. Bedrooms have comfy queen beds and an additional flat-screen TV. Second-floor rooms have steam showers; 1st-floor rooms have deep tubs. The location is a virtue: it's on quiet James Avenue, two blocks from the heart of Lincoln Road and one block from the chic and pricey Collins Avenue hotels. A stay here grants you access to the beach club and big pool at the Sanctuary's sister property, the Shelborne, on 18th Street. The pool here is just 2 feet deep, a mere reflective surface on the rooftop sundeck, which also has cabanas and a bar scene weekend nights. OLA, one of Miami's most notable restaurants, is in the lobby. Pros: Amenity-filled suites, great restaurant, and quiet rooftop with cabanas. Cons: Limited service and a couple of blocks removed from the beach.
