Among the estates along historic Old Cutler Road, in an area few visitors realize is part of Coral Gables, is. Named for the type of characteristically Floridian ecosystem found here (not for a preponderance of hammocks swinging from trees), Miami-Dade County's oldest park is one of its most appealing. Nature lovers will delight in the verdant surroundings, while city slickers will appreciate the Miami skyline views. The bathing beach is separated from peaceful Biscayne Bay by a narrow walking path, and its slowly sloping shore is ideal for children. Even the parking lot is on the bay, a popular launching pad for kiteboarders. The park has plenty of lush walking and bike trails, picnic tables under towering trees, a marina, changing facilities, outdoor showers and bathrooms, plus a walk-up snack shop that becomes a full-service seafood restaurant at dinner.
