Parks, North Miami-Dade
Fodor's Review:
Far from the action of South Beach, Haulover preserves the Miami of the late '60s. You can fire up the barbecue grills, get in on a pickup volleyball game, or bike along the beach road. There are also showers and a concession stand. Sand on the eroded beach hasn't been replaced, and the narrow strand is perfect for beachgoers who don't relish a trek across hot sand to get to the water. Kite flying is popular here, and there are kite shops to get you started. An underground path leads to the Haulover Park Marina, home to the largest charter/drift-fishing fleet in South Florida. A clearly marked clothing-optional section at the north end of the beach draws 5,000 to 7,000 birthday-suited beachgoers, including a large gay crowd, on any given Sunday.
