Miami's preeminent classical troupe and America's fastest-growing dance company has risen rapidly to international prominence in its relatively short existence. Since 1986, when one-time New York City Ballet principal Edward Villella became artist director, the ballet has become a world-class ensemble. As Florida's first major, fully professional, resident ballet company, the troupe re-creates the Balanchine repertoire and introduces works of its own during its September to March season. Villella also hosts children's works-in-progress programs. The ballet's home is in the two-square-block Miami Beach Cultural Campus, although it is also a resident troupe of the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts.
