Football

Consistently ranked as one of the top teams in the NFL, the Miami Dolphins have one of the largest average attendance figures in the league. Fans may be secretly hoping to see a repeat of 1972's perfect season, when the team, led by legendary coach Don Shula, compiled a 17-0 record (a record that still stands). September through January, on home game days the Metro Miami-Dade Transit Agency runs buses to the stadium. Dolphin Stadium, 2267 N.W. 199th St., 16 mi northwest of Downtown, between I-95 and Florida's Tpke., Miami. 305/620-2578. www.miamidolphins.com.

Gimme a D-O-L-L

Where would a pro football team be without its cheerleaders? In the early days, the Miami Dolphins received support from a group of girls known as the Dolphin Dolls, ranging in age from 8 to 18. In 1978, they were replaced by the Dolphin Starbrites, 30 women who performed in one-piece bathing suits and go-go boots. These days the kitschy names are gone, but the Dolphin Cheerleaders remain a sideline staple.
