Across the Intracoastal Waterway from Haulover Beach Park are 1,033 acres of subtropical beauty along Biscayne Bay. Swim in the calm bay waters and bicycle, canoe, and bask among egrets, manatees, bald eagles, and fiddler crabs. Highlights include picnic pavilions, five on the Intracoastal and four adjacent to a man-made swimming beach; a playground for tots; a mangrove island accessible only by boat; mountain-bike trails; and primitive but air-conditioned cabins ($50.85 per night, reservations required) for those who wish to tackle the trails at night. In early 2007, the Historic Blue Marlin Fish House and Outdoor Experience, a casual café and self-guided interpretative center, opened on park land just west of the entrance.
