When you have an Oceanside address like Ocean and 11th, you have a distinct advantage. When you make the setting for your restaurant Gianni Versace's former mansion, however, you have yourself an international destination. After all, eating here (or, tip: just having a drink at the courtyard bar) allows you to roam the front terrace, inner courtyard, and—a world-class jaw-dropper—the magical back pool garden of this historic Mediterranean fantasy home. In short, if you can afford a trip here, it's worth it, no matter what the food's like. As it turns out, happily, the food is also a winner. Start with a sea scallop appetizer served with Ossetra caviar and a brown butter vinaigrette. A dozen fish choices include snapper with stuffed grape leaves and sushi-grade tuna steak. Casa Casuarina is filled with millions of tiles that Versace, genius that he was, assembled on the walls, floors and ceilings all around him. The choice of salts, including Himalayan, olive, and Hawaiian is another mosaic that adds to the enchantment here.
