Fashion designer Todd Oldham wanted to preserve the Art Deco roots of the Hotel, which inhabits the historic Tiffany building, while making it modern. So, he made it tie-dye. Everything in this quirky, romantic boutique, from the decor of four-star restaurant, Wish, to the bathrobes hanging in the small but cute bathrooms, is stained blue and green. Somehow the decor paired with soft browns and whites and accented with the knowing eye of a megadesigner works. Add soft lighting and two-person bathtubs, and you have all the makings of a romantic retreat. The hotel's most exquisite treat is a rooftop bar, a low-key hangout where locals and hotel guests lounge under the neon light of the Tiffany sign on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Pros: great service; coolest roof-deck bar in town; good for couples. Cons: pool is tiny; rooms have no view.

paying in the $200 range for a property without a working elevator is wrong in all kinds of ways, as they seem to like the fact they render no services at all. Save your trouble, if you do try to recover sleep from the street noise that kept you up all night, housekeeping will be sure to wake you from that nap. Yuk.
