In South Beach's decidedly new-money scene, the stately Joe's Stone Crab is an old-school testament to good food and good service. South Beach's most storied restaurant started as a turn-of-the-century eating house when Joseph Weiss discovered succulent stone crabs off the Florida coast. Almost a century later, the restaurant stretches a city block and serves 2,000 dinners a day to local politicians and moneyed patriarchs. Stone crabs, served with legendary mustard sauce, crispy hash browns, and creamed spinach, remain the staple. But don't think you need a trust fund to eat here: Joe's serves sensational fried chicken for $5.95. Finish your meal with tart key lime pie, baked fresh daily. Joe's famously refuses reservations, and weekend waits can be three hours long, so come early or order from Joe's Take Away next door.

A few years back I was at Joe's in Chicago and had a wonderful meal but it just didn't compare to the great experience I had at the Miami location.
My kids were with me during this vacation in Miami and my son does not eat seafood so I was weary about bring him there. It was a while ago we ate in Chicago and I probably didn't notice the meat on the menu. My son had the best meal ever. He was the first to say he had the best new york steak and chocolate cake, better then our lousy Smith and Wolinsky experience this last time and although we had a great meal in California at the Palm , Joe's (pardon the pun) really took the cake.
We are going to Las Vegas in Aug. and I can't wait to try Joe's there.
