A rather plain-Jane storefront gives way to a warm and cozy dining room, where chef-owner Alice Weingarten works whimsical creations that are very far from plain. Color, zing, and spice are Weingarten's main ingredients. Take the tuna tartare tower: it's spiced with a garlic-chili paste, topped with tomato-ginger jam, and served between crisp wonton wafers. The Brazilian churrasco pan-seared skirt steak is served with garlicky chimichurri sauce and green chili and manchego cheese mashed potatoes. Or, try the Asian-spiced wild boar baby back ribs or the marinated ostrich. It's open for breakfast and lunch, too; end your Duval Crawl here for a breakfast of eggs, fries, and toast for as little as $4.

Recommended by friends, we really enjoyed our visit here. The food was great and capped our long day of sightseeing and walking.
