Kona Skatepark

Fodor's Review:

Built back in the '70s—before most of its patrons were even born—this X-treme sport outpost still has its original bowls, plus updates like an 80-foot-wide vertical ramp, two street courses, and one of the area's few snake runs (a high-speed downhill run with banked turns). Skateboard legend Tony Hawk digs the park's retro feel so much that he named it one of his five favorite U.S. skate parks. The park, which also caters to in-line skaters, rents boards, skates, and safety equipment (required of all skaters) and offers lessons. Reduced rates are available on weekdays. And as proof that you're never too old to skate, skaters over 30 get half off every Wednesday night and those over 65 skate free every day.

  • Cost: $5–$10
  • Open: Weekdays 1–9, Sat. 10–10, Sun. noon–9
