Edgewater Beach Hotel

$$$$, Naples

User Rating: ** 2.2

Fodor's Review:

This compact waterfront seven-story hotel anchors the north end of fashionable Gulf Shore Boulevard. The one- and two-bedroom suites are brightly decorated and have gingerbread-trimmed patios or balconies, many with exquisite gulf views. Have meals by the pool or in the elegant restaurant in the newly renovated lobby. You'll also find the new fitness center and business facilities on the same floor. Guests have certain dining and recreational privileges (including golfing) at the Naples Grande Resort, a sister property.

A Bad Night

Posted by Jack from Nashville, TN on 8/2/06

Spent last night at the hotel on my way to the Keys. In the past, this hotel was one of the best in Naples. There was a time when $300 a night seemed fair. I have been vacationing in Naples since 1992 and have spent time at the Hotel every year (Lunch, beach or staying). I decided to make a stop in Naples after receiving a email from the hotel offering a one bedroom suite for $125 a night. Great deal on the surface but after the fire alarm goes off at 4 a.m. for 35 minutes only to go off again at 7 a.m. for another 5 minutes....what a rip off. We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. The 1 year old takes an hour to get back to sleep after the first alarm and my 4 year old pisses in her pants while in the bed. Needless to say we checked out soon after the 7 a.m. fire alarm. Upon checkout, I was told the fire alarms had been pulled in the same location so it really was not the hotel's fault. I asked and received half off for the night so we paid $65 for our one night stay. I think a proper response would have been no charge and a free night's stay. Considering the consequences on my family..it was $65 to much. Why should a loyal customer have to ask for compensation after a night of hell? The service has gone down hill here and I would suggest folks look elsewhere. I noticed the clients seemed young more like college students so maybe there is more of party scene here. The hotel has a Euro feel now and seems to have attracted some rowdy Germans. Who knows...its August which isn't a busy period for Naples. Lost interest in this place...not to mention the $5 dollar Coke and $10 bottle of water.
