This Las Olas landmark with photos of Monroe, Nixon, and local notables past and present in a succession of brightly painted rooms with funky chandeliers dishes up some of the best breakfasts around, with oversize omelets that come with biscuits, toast, or English muffins, plus a choice of grits or tomatoes. With sausage or bacon on the side, the feast will make you forget about eating again soon. Count on savory sandwiches and hot platters for lunch, tempting meat-loaf plates for dinner, and friendly, efficient service. It's open 24 hours—even during hurricanes, as long as the power holds out. Feeling flush? Try the Fat Cat Breakfast (New York strip steak, hash browns or grits, toast, and a worthy champagne) or the Not-So-Fat-Cat, with the same grub and a lesser-quality vintage.

After enjoying our dinner I hand my bankcard (VISA) over to the server. She looks at it and says, "Sorry, we don't accept it, but we do have an ATM." She then says, "I've had complaints about this before and asked the owner about it. Between you and me...the owner owns the machine!". Then, already upset I go up to the ATM machine where I pay $2.00 to get cash (and my bank charges ANOTHER $2.00), to pay a lousy $24.00 check. I go to to pay at the register and tell the gentleman that it's unfair they don't accept credit cards. He then gave me a little attitude about it and then said, "Yeah, I've been yelling at the owner about it for years!". I then proceeded to tell him to tell the owner that they just lost a regular customer. He said, "Will Do!" Little did the guy know that I knew(and I'm pretty darn sure), that he was either the owner or one of the owners.) The whole point is...don't rip customers off! In this day and age who doesn't accept credit cards? Talk about a trap to get you to use their ATM. Appreciate your customers and treat them well or they won't come back ever again. Case in point - We went there 3-4 times (with cash and never knew about the issue). This was our last time. Food was decent, nothing special, but this took it over the edge for me.

This diners is an old-established restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. If you want something typical for this town go there! It is very laid back, so don't expect something elaborate. You can see all different kinds of people having a real american diner's plate. The plates are really big and the typical food you would expect at a diners. Service is okay and the price is really good.

Atmosphere makes up for subpar fare. People watching is nice, but chicken fried steak was worse than the one you'd get in elementary school.
