On Las Olas Boulevard, just steps from boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries, Fort Lauderdale's oldest hotel debuted in 1936. Frequent renovations have kept it looking great. Penthouse suites in the 12-story executive tower have balconies with sweeping views of Las Olas, New River, and downtown skyline. Historic photos grace hallways, and rooms are outfitted with antique oak furnishings and framed prints. Enjoy afternoon tea in the spruced-up lobby, and dine at Indigo, where American favorites include steaks and seafood, or the elegant Grill Room. The hotel's Wine Room for private dining has a 4,000-bottle cellar; a reservations-only English afternoon-tea program (choose from Classic, Full, or Royal) unfolds in the lobby. Pros: historic appeal; in the thick of action; nice views. Cons: no quick access to beach.

I really liked this hotel, although the room was small for the price, and the bathroom was very small. But, as a solo traveler and a one night stay, not a big deal. The main restaurant the next morning for a very relaxing precruise breakfast was wonderful. The garden area outside the lobby is beautiful, lush, with pretty furniture, etc. I would definitely stay here again.
