African-American Research Library and Cultural Center

Fodor's Review:

A few miles west of downtown, this resource provides locals and researchers from around the world with more than 75,000 books, documents, and artifacts centering on experiences of people of African descent. The family of Emmy Award-winning Esther Rolle—Florida Evans on television's Good Times—donated much of her memorabilia for display, from beaded gowns to awards and photos. Rolle, of Bahamian descent, died in 1998, after growing up with 17 siblings in Pompano Beach. There's a gift shop and a small café, and parking is free.

  • Cost: Free
  • Open: Mon.-Thurs. 10-9, Fri. and Sat. 10-6, Sun. 1-5
