Home to steaming coffee and a demanding skip-your-dinner dessert display, Lester's has stood as a 24-hour haven for the hungry along State Road 84 since 1967. Truckers head in here on their way to Port Everglades, as do workers from the area's thriving marine industry, suits from downtown toting briefcases, and tourists packing beach bags. A stick-to-the-ribs menu includes breakfast anytime, homemade soups, sandwiches (try the Monte Cristo), salads, and dinners of generous portions. If your cholesterol count can take the hit, try the country-fried steak or the chicken-liver omelet. Two other Lester's—in western Broward's Margate and Sunrise—close at midnight on weeknights.
