Not as posh as Palm Beach or as deco-trendy as Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale has a growing roster of more than respectable lodging choices, from beachfront luxury suites to intimate bed-and-breakfasts to chain hotels along the Intracoastal Waterway. Relatively new on the luxury front are the Atlantic, the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, and the Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale, with more upscale accommodations on the horizon. If you want to be on the beach, be sure to ask specifically when booking your room, since many hotels advertise "waterfront" accommodations that are actually on inland waterways or overlooking the beach from across Route A1A.
