Numerous interactive exhibits and films make the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center a worthy and important stop during your tour of the region. Stand in a simulated blind and peer through a spyglass to watch birds in the wild; although it's actually a film, the quality is so good you'll think you're outside. Move on to a bank of telephones to hear differing viewpoints on the Great Water Debate. Another exhibit re-creates sights and sounds of the Everglades. A 15-minute film on the park, a movie on hurricanes, and a 35-minute wildlife film for children are rotated in the theater. Computer monitors present a schedule of daily ranger-led activities parkwide as well as information on canoe rentals and boat tours. In the Everglades Discovery Shop, browse through neat nature, science, and kids' stuff and pick up extra insect repellent. Park admission fees permit entry for a seven-day period, including at the Shark Valley access. The Coe Visitor Center, however, has free admission, as it's outside the park gates.
