U Street/Cardozo

The revival of U Street NW in the 1990s turned the area into a provocative spot for anyone looking for cutting-edge shopping, welcoming restaurants, and live music. For Washington's African-Americans, the glory of U Street never went away. Signs of its longevity include the elegant Duke Ellington mural above the 13th Street exit of the U Street Metro stop, as well as the restoration of the vaudeville-era Lincoln Theater, and an influx of new businesses.
