At the Museum of Natural History they'll see live tarantulas, explore butterfly gardens, take in an IMAX movie, or even brave a sleepover. They'll conduct lively experiments at Spark!Lab or get hands-on at Q?URIS. They'll watch live demonstrations of important events in American history at the Museum of American History, and they can see famous spaceships, fighter planes, and the Space Shuttle Discovery at the National Air and Space Museum. At the Corcoran Gallery of Art, interactive exhibitions and Free Summer Saturdays are for younger visitors. The Freer Gallery of Art and Hirshhorn Museum offer free art workshops for kids and teens. The National Building Museum showcases such interactive exhibits as the Building Zone, and at the D.A.R. Museum kids can play games and try on costumes from the time of the American Revolution. Groove to Tot-Rock and other family-friendly performances at Discovery Theater in the Ripley Center next to the Smithsonian Castle. At the Spy Museum, kids learn the tricks behind the spy trade at Operation Ninja.
