Gays and lesbians have been in the Dupont Circle area for decades, but in recent years the community has expanded east to Logan Circle and north to Adams-Morgan and Mount Pleasant. There's also a small enclave on Capitol Hill. There are many gay bars and restaurants in these neighborhoods, but gays will feel comfortable in most establishments throughout the city.

To find out what's going on in gay D.C., pick up a copy of The Washington Blade (www.washblade.com), the country's oldest gay newspaper. It's full of local and national news, arts and cultural coverage, and listings of bars and clubs. For a complete rundown of nightlife, try Metro Weekly (www.metroweekly.com). You can find both at gay businesses, as well as at Lambda Rising, the city's only gay bookstore. The store is just north of the Dupont Circle Metro station. It's open Sunday to Thursday 10-10 and Friday and Saturday 10-midnight.
