A word of advice: when you arrive in D.C., park the car and leave it. Driving in D.C. can be a headache, especially on the crowded streets around the Mall, and parking can be even worse. Luckily the city has a great public transportation system. Because it links many of the neighborhoods frequented by visitors, the Metro is a convenient way to get around the city. However, the Metro does bypass Georgetown, Adams-Morgan, and Mount Pleasant, so if you're headed to these neighborhoods, take a bus or a taxi instead. The three routes of the D.C. Circulator are convenient for sight-seeing and shopping trips.
