Fodor's Review

This 46,000-sq-ft. museum, which recently opened on the campus of George Washington University, showcases weavings, carpets, and tapestries that date from 3000 BC to the present. Rotating exhibits are taken from a permanent collection of 19,000 historic and ethnographic items that include Coptic and pre-Columbian textiles, Kashmir embroidery, and Turkmen tribal rugs. Also within this impressive building are the Arthur D. Jenkins Library for the Textile Arts and the Textile Museum Shop, packed with handmade textiles from around the world, books, and clothing accessories.
