DGS Delicatessen

DGS Delicatessen Review

Your favorite Jewish grandma might be thrown for a loop by this precocious reboot of her staple dishes—what, regular kasha varnishkes were so boring, they had to throw Middle Eastern harissa and olives in with the buckwheat-pasta mix?—but she will be won over by the traditional matzo ball soup and potato pancakes, or latkes, at this popular new comfort-food outpost. Even when she's not in town, the younger set will get a kick out of chef Barry Koslow's take on favorite New York deli items, like the "fiery brisket balls" served in yogurt sauce for a bargain price during happy hour. (One more touch Grandma will appreciate: the initials in the title hark back to a long-departed local Jewish chain, District Grocery Stores.)
