Who says Thai food has to be sweat-inducing? Sala Thai makes the food as spicy as you wish, because this chef is interested in flavor, not fire. The subtly seasoned dishes are pla goong (shrimp in lime dressing) or chicken sautéed with ginger and pineapple. But if you're looking for heat, don't miss the palate-inflaming, three-alarm stir-fry plates. Mirrored walls and warm lights soften this small dining room. The U Street location boasts the biggest crowds and best service, but spinoffs can be found downtown, in north Columbia Heights, and in the Maryland suburb of Bethesda.
