Art and Soul

Art and Soul Review

Best known as Oprah's longtime personal chef, Art Smith is now serving the Washingtonian crowd at this funky Southern-fried spot, located in the Liaison Capitol Hill. No down-home craving goes unsatisfied in this chic but welcoming kitchen, where New Orleans-style three-shellfish gumbo shares pride of place with Appalachian cornbread cooked in a can. Even the otherwise healthy green salad gets the soulful moniker of "earth'n'eats" here. The bar makes no bones about its fancy provenance, though, offering a rich cast of wines that belie their one-digit price tags and a refreshing tequila special called The Spirit of Justice. Mixing high and low was never so much fun.
