This modern mecca for mezes (small plates for sharing) delivers delicious and chic Mediterranean without the whiz-bang conceits of its pricier small-plate cousins. The entire Greek catalogue is here for the taking, from fluffy taramosalata (salmon roe dip) with a touch of citrus to rich, melt-in-your-mouth spinach pie. There are few surprises on the menu, save for the gloriously salty halloumi cheese topped with mint, but the leather-lined room and gallant service
make the traditional dishes feel new again. There are two other locations: in Rockville, Maryland, and the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia; both are accessible by public transportation. Quicker, more informal "Cava Grill" spinoffs serve the menu's greatest hits near the Bethesda and Columbia Heights Metro stops.
