Hotel Tabard Inn Review

One of the city's oldest hotels is actually three connected town houses, featuring all kinds of hidden treasures and rooms along its dimly lighted hallways—you get the sense the place belongs to someone's fantastical albeit slightly eccentric great-aunt. A full-time designer on staff is constantly purchasing the many antiques and whimsical objects that decorate the rooms and common areas. The fireside bar is the perfect place to treat winter's chill, and the restaurant is a favorite among locals and guests. Committed to green living, the hotel's innkeeper grows herbs on one of the hotel's three green roofs for use in the kitchen.

    Wonderful Stay

This hotel is hard to rate in some areas as it really is up to peoples personal preferences.
The Good: The Hotel offers a lot of amenities that others charge a premium for. They offer a free breakfast which consisted of several options. They also had free wireless internet and a Guest PC for people to utilize..again free. Insteda of offering an onsite gym they have guest passes to the YMCA a block away which is huge and beats regular hotel gyms. The location is also excellent. Its just 2 blocks from the Metro rail which can get you pretty much anywhere in DC. The Hotel itself is a pretty good bargain considering the fact that rooms nearby go in the $300 range. The people...the lounge in the evening is one of the most fascinating places when it comes to conversation.
The Cons: These depend mainly on your personality. Someone earlier complained that the staff informed her about the 15 minute offloading space....well I wish they had done that for me because the people who parked there prior to us didn't show up for awhile to move their vehicle..so I don't understand why she'd complain about that unless she's just narcissistic. Then theres the steps....I'm in pretty good shape and I understand that putting an elevator in would be impossible especially when the 3 row houses are not interconnected on every floor, but its something thats hit or miss with hardier travelers versus pampered travelers. The rooms are hit or miss as well. If you go for the lowest priced rooms then you will be in a pretty small room, but the medium and larger rooms are very nice. I'd recommend the smaller rooms only if you don't plan to be in the room that much. The Front Desk Staff: The staff are wonderful, but they won't hold your hand. They do not have a dedicated concierge and the Front Desk does double duty as Reservation taker and Check IN which is probably how they can afford to charge lower rates.
