New Heights Review

This inviting restaurant has 11 large windows that overlook nearby Rock Creek Park. The sophisticated contemporary cooking has changed hands among multiple chefs in recent years, most recently landing in the lap of young Takeshi Nishikawa, but all blend bold flavors into the traditional American dishes. Seared mackerel takes Mediterranean form with castelvetrano olives and smoked celeriac, while chicken-liver mousse gets a sweet-and-spicy fig-and-anise accent. Desserts tend towards the traditional under Nishikawa's tutelage, headlined by a Meyer lemon custard.
