Fodor's Review

One of Washington's oldest continuously operating hotels, the Harrington celebrated its 100th year in 2014 and continues to be popular for its low prices, friendly staff, and location right in the center of everything. The quaint hotel doesn't offer many frills but its bathrooms and large guest rooms are newly renovated and welcoming. It's very popular with springtime high school bus tours.

Best location on a budget

stayed 6 nights. not fancy, but functional. everything in the room worked. very good cleaning staff. bed ok, bit soft. shows its wear. Great value. personnel helpful. walking distance to just about everything without a taxi. I would repeat.

Location is the only plus

This hotel has a great location. The hotel itself is worn and run down. No airconditioning in our room. Matresses were very uncomfortable. Bathrooms were only marginally clean and the water in the shower never held a constant temperature, so always too cold or too hot throughout the shower. The staff at the front desk was curt and boarderline rude. Felt like we had stayed in a dive that cost too much for what we got, but was in a great location.

Hotel Parking is actually about 5 blocks away from the hotel, but reasonably priced. Breakfast is not included in the price and at the restaurant in the hotel was $7.90 per person. Which for our family would have added $31.60 to the cost of the room, which really makes this hotel as expensive as many others in the area that do include breakfast in their rates. Given the choice again I would stay farther away and ride the metro to get a nicer hotel at the same price, or pay more for a better hotel in a similar location. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Somewhere between well worn and shabby

The Hotel Harrington is the one of the oldest continually operating hotels in D.C. and it looks like it. The rooms are oddly configured with comically unmatched furniture, bathroom hardware that dates from the 1950's and wallpaper that is separating from the walls. However, the rooms are clean and the hotel is probably the best value in DC for sightseers on a budget. In the midst of conference season in DC, a 2 bedroom room with two full baths

still goes for just under $100 per night. In addition to the value, the location of the hotel is great - just blocks from the FBI, Fords Theatre and the Whitehouse and right across the street from the ESPN Sportszone restaurant. If you are looking to stretch the budget on a sightseeing trip and just need a clean room to sleep and shower, this may be the place for you.
