Fodor's Review:

This hallmark of Washington's luxury hotels opened in 1925 for Calvin Coolidge's inauguration. Franklin Delano Roosevelt wrote, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" in Suite 776, and J. Edgar Hoover ate here at the same table every day for 20 years. The Mayflower's two-level lobby with its block-long parade of chandeliers is a magnificent neoclassic public space. Rooms are elegant, though on the small side; rooms on the concierge floor have added luxuries such as Italian linens and robes and slippers. Contemporary Mediterranean cuisine is served at the Café Promenade restaurant amid silver, crystal, and flower arrangements. There's also a bar that serves pub fare.
