Renaissance Mayflower Hotel Review

The magnificent block-long lobby with its series of antique crystal chandeliers and gilded columns is a destination in itself. Guest rooms at this grande dame hotel, which opened its doors in 1925 for Calvin Coolidge's inauguration, are done in soothing yellows, green, tans, and blues. Town and Country, the hotel's inside-the-Beltway power bar, has been a place for political wheeling and dealing for nearly as long as the hotel. Sam the bartender mixes up 101 martinis to keep guests happily in the drink. Work off the booze and the crab cakes, a favorite on the menu at the hotel's elegant Café Promenade, in the spa-like fitness center.
