$$$-$$$$, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
Home to Washington's last hand-operated elevator, the Lombardy's original Art Deco styling dates from 1929, when the hotel was built as a posh apartment building. Reincarnated as a hotel, its rooms still feel like an elegant city home, with Chinese antiques, original oil paintings, and tiled bathrooms that almost feel cozy. Separate dressing areas and windows that open for fresh air complete the picture. In summer, ask for free passes to the pool at the nearby Washington Plaza hotel.
