This inn on a hill overlooking the countryside has sumptuous rooms with antiques, four-poster beds, fireplaces, pitched ceilings, and timber beams. The attractive chintz-and-prints restaurant ($$$) serves creative interpretations of Continental and American fare, such as seared tuna steak with sesame seeds, and New Zealand venison chops with a red-wine reduction. Pros: beautiful grounds, many rooms have fireplaces, very good restaurant. Cons: Traditional decor is very old-fashioned, somewhat remote location requires a car.
