House on the Hill

Fodor's Review:

Owner-innkeeper Marianne Vandenburgh's fanciful B&B is surrounded by lush gardens in a historic hillside neighborhood. The three-story 1888 Victorian, former home of a brass baron, has a glorious exterior color scheme of teal, sage green, red, and ivory. The rich original woodwork and details remain, and guest rooms—four suites—are furnished in a welcoming blend of antiques and nostalgia. One suite has two bedrooms and another has a kitchenette. Pros: meticulously restored house, highly professional innkeeper, fantastic breakfasts. Cons: historic but urban location in a slightly rough-around-the-edges-city.
