Max Downtown

Fodor's Review:

With its contemporary design, extensive array of martinis and wines, and sophisticated cuisine, Max Downtown is a favorite with the city's well-heeled and a popular after-work spot. Creative entrées include lemon-scented black cod with roasted fennel and cherry-tomatoes confit; and a wide range of perfectly prepared steaks, with such toppings as foie-gras butter and cognac-peppercorn cream. Desserts such as the chocolate-chip ice cream cake and banana praline crepe are not to be missed. The restaurant is part of a small empire of excellent Hartford-area restaurants that includes Max's Oyster in West Hartford, Max a Mia in Avon, and several others.
