Hartford and the Connecticut River Valley Restaurants

Max Downtown

Max Downtown Review

With its contemporary design, extensive array of martinis and wines, and sophisticated cuisine, Max Downtown is a favorite with the city's well-heeled and a popular after-work spot. Creative entrées include peanut crusted ahi tuna with a vegetable maki roll and kung pao sauce, double thick lamb loin chops with rosemary spaetzle, and a wide range of perfectly prepared steaks with such toppings as foie-gras butter and cognac-peppercorn cream. Desserts, such as the chocolate-chip ice cream cake and the chocolate mousse tower with raspberry coulis, are not to be missed. It's part of a small empire of excellent Hartford-area restaurants that includes Max's Oyster in West Hartford, Max a Mia in Avon, and several others.

Max may be Hartford's premier dining spot. There are a few others that are nearly as good, but Max always pulls off every aspect of their service with style. The linens are crisp, the meals are prepared to perfection, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are on the mark for the dining experiance.
