This sleek and sophisticated tavern in the heart of Chester functions both as a cheery neighborhood restaurant and a bona fide destination for fans of first-rate contemporary international food. The emphasis here is on freshness, and the menu changes frequently. Favorites have included mussels with lemongrass and coconut milk, and crispy duck confit served in Hunan-style pork broth with duck-liver-mousse wontons. The adjacent wine bar serves simpler victuals and numerous vintages by the glass.

The River Tavern is a delight in every way. Best of all is the food. The menu is interesting, the food exceptional, and the service excellent. It is small so you need reservations. The Lemon Drop martini is my favorite! Great decor. You will not be disappointed.
