When to Go in Vail

When to Go

Vail has grown into a year-round resort, skiing being the main attraction from December through March, and outdoor pursuits like hiking, biking, and fishing the rest of the year. While May and June have pleasant temperatures, many of the hiking and biking trails are still buried beneath snowdrifts. For those interested in seeing wildflowers, mid-July is the time to hit the peaks. The colorful aspen trees generally turn bright gold sometime in September.

Vail hosts a wide variety of festivals, starting with the GoPro Mountain Games (www.mountaingames.com), showcasing such sports as kayaking, rafting, and mountain biking. Then there are Taste of Vail (www.tasteofvail.com), Gourmet on Gore, Spring Back to Vail, Snow Daze, Bravo!, and the Vail International Dance Festival, to name just a few. There are also free outdoor concerts by up-and-coming musicians, as well as concerts both on and off the mountain by some of the biggest names in the business.
