Silver Thread Scenic Byway

Silver Thread Scenic Byway Review

Lake City is at the northern tip of the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, which ends 75 mi south in Southfork. The paved route, also called Highway 149, climbs over Slumgullion Pass from Lake City, overlooks the headwaters of the Rio Grande, and then drops down into the lush Rio Grande Valley. Along the way, you'll see plenty of old gold and silver mining camps and spectacular North Clear Creek Falls.
