Cortez Cultural Center

Fodor's Review:

The exterior of the excellent Cortez Cultural Center has been painted to resemble the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde. Exhibits focus on regional artists and artisans, the Ute Mountain branch of the Ute tribe, and various periods of Ancestral Puebloan culture. The Cultural Park at the Cortez Cultural Center contains an authentic Navajo hogan and a Ute tepee. The park itself is open 9 to 5; admission is free. Summer evenings there are Native American dances; sandpainting, rug weaving, and pottery-making demonstrations; theatrical events; and storytelling.

  • Cost: Free
  • Open: June-Aug., Mon.-Sat. 10-10; Sept.-May, Mon.-Sat. 10-5
