Western State College announces its presence with a 320-by-420-foot whitewashed rock that's shaped like a W on Tenderfoot Mountain, just to the north of campus. The institution started out as a combined high school and college in 1901 and became Western State College in 1923. This liberal arts and sciences college is attended by 2,500 students, representing most of the 50 states and some foreign countries.
