Top Reasons to Go

Skiing: You won't find more choices to ski and ride within snowball-throw's distance of one another than in Summit County, a mere hour-drive from the Denver Metro Area. With five ski resorts ringing the mountains—A-Basin, Breck, Cooper, Copper, and Keystone—Summit County is a skier's and rider's Valhalla with everything from the easy beginner glades at Copper to backcountry cat skiing at Keystone.

Leadville: It was gold that built Colorado in the 1800s, and this legacy is alive and well in the rejuvenated mining town of Leadville. Walk the small downtown of our country's highest city—a breath-sapping 10,430 feet—and visit some of the local museums like the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum.

Lake Dillon: Nothing beats a day of lake kayaking or fishing among the many wooded islets on Lake Dillon, the reservoir that is the heart of Summit County.

Party Towns: If you're looking for a reason to party surrounded by white-capped mountains, Breckenridge hosts numerous festivals including the aptly named Spring Massive Festival in April, and the weeklong Ullr Festival in January.

Trail Biking: Sure, there are plenty of beautiful single tracks for mountain bikers, but the real draw in Summit County is the glorious paved bike trail that runs from Dillon all the way up and over Vail Pass down into that ski town. Bring your helmet and your wallet—you can stop off for refreshments at Copper Mountain Resort.
