Top Reasons to Go

Colorado National Monument: The sandstone canyons yield a sense of solitude and peace that the more-frequented parks of Utah and Arizona simply can't provide. Gaze out over Grand Junction toward the Bookcliffs from the comfort of your car along the 23-mi Rim Rock Drive or hike one of the many trails.

Wine tasting in Grand Junction and Palisade: More than a dozen wineries call the area home; they have garnered national attention for their wines made from grapes grown in the unique high-altitude soil. At harvest time, folks bike from vineyard to vineyard for the tasting celebrations.

Strawberry Park Hot Springs: This is one of the best natural hot springs in the state. Though it takes some work to get here, it's well worth the effort to soak away what ails you in the rustic, rock-lined setting.

Horseback riding in Steamboat Springs: From an authentic dude ranch experience to a pack trip into the Mount Zirkel Wilderness to simply whiling away a few hours along a gentle alpine trail, horses are serious business in Steamboat.

Dinosaur National Monument: The surrounding area is rugged and barely inhabited, which makes a visit to the famous fossilized bones all the more poetic. Wander among thousands of skulls and other skeletons that remain embedded in the hillsides, an incomparable connection to the past.
