Hiking

The peaks of the rugged San Juan Mountains around Telluride require some scrambling, occasionally bordering on real climbing, to get to the top. A local favorite is Wilson Peak, which is one of the easier Fourteeners to climb if you take the Navajo Lake Approach. July and August are the most popular months on this 9½-mile round-trip hike.

Bear Creek Falls. An immensely popular trail leads to Bear Creek Falls, 2½ miles from the trailhead. It's a steady climb, but the destination is worth it. The route is also used by mountain bikers. Telluride, Colorado.

Jud Wiebe Trail. This 3-mile loop is an excellent hike that is generally passable from spring until late fall. The first segment of the trail is fairly steep, so this is not the best choice for novices. It links with the Sneffels Highline Trail, a 13-mile loop that leads through wildflower-covered meadows. Telluride, Colorado.
