When to Go in Telluride
When to Go
Telluride has two off-seasons, when most restaurants and many lodgings take a breather. The town closes up from late September or early October until ski season gets going in late November. Many people also flee town during "mud season," leaving after the ski area shuts down in mid-April and returning in early or mid-June. But with the growing popularity of Mountainfilm, a film festival held over Memorial Day weekend, more places are staying open. Off-season rates offer you a chance to enjoy the town’s charm for less. However, when the summer festivals are in full swing, prices skyrocket and rooms book up fast. The biggies are the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June, the Telluride Jazz Festival in early August, the Telluride Film Festival over Labor Day weekend, and the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival in mid-September. Whenever you decide to go, you should check for upcoming events at least three months in advance.
Highly regarded wine and film festivals alternate with musical performances celebrating everything from bluegrass to jazz to chamber music.
